Khenpo Biography
Khenpo Ogen Kalsang Rinpoche is a teacher and scholar of the Dudjom Tersar lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. From a young age, he trained as a monk at Samye Memorial Institute in Kathmandu, Nepal, under the guidance of His Eminence Yeshe Sangpo Rinpoche. There, he completed in-depth studies in sutra and tantra according to the Nyingma tradition and earned the prestigious title of Khenpo.
Over the past 15 years, Khenpo has been teaching monastics at the institute, specializing in higher tantras and classical Buddhist texts. From 1994 to 2005, he studied outer and inner tantras and Dzogchen (The Great Perfection). From 2005 to 2011, he completed several traditional retreats focused on preliminary practices (ngöndro) as well as the creation and completion stages of Dzogchen.
Khenpo’s principal teachers in the Dudjom lineage are:
- His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche
- His Holiness Thinley Norbu Rinpoche
- His Eminence Yeshe Sangpo Rinpoche
He is also closely connected to many other masters across the old and new schools of Tibetan Buddhism, including the Nyingthik tradition of Dzogchen from H.H. Drubwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche.
Today, Khenpo offers teachings to lay practitioners across Asia, Europe, and the United States, both online and in person, in Tibetan and English. From his base in Kathmandu, he also translates sacred sadhanas and prayers from the Dudjom Tersar tradition into English for his students.
He has recently formed a connection with the village of Thulopatal, Nepal, where he serves as the primary spiritual guide. At the request of his Nepali students, he has also begun preliminary planning to build a small monastery in Kathmandu. Whether teaching monastics, laypeople, or scholar, Khenpo works tirelessly to preserve authentic Tibetan Buddhism and spread the Buddhadharma teachings of compassion and wisdom.
